UNIVERSITY NEWS-AIU WEEKLY JOURNAL

University News – A Weekly Journal of Higher Education published by the Association of Indian Universities is the premier forum for academics, leaders, teachers, policy makers, managers, administrators and stakeholders interested in different facets of higher education, national and international. Commenced in 1929, it is now an official organ of the Association. It has carved a niche for itself as one among the very few journals in regularity of appearance and richness of contents. It appears with clockwise regularity on every Monday and reaches an extensive audience. It is indeed an indispensable reading for all those connected with higher education. The Journal is referred internationally for the happenings in Indian higher education. It contains a mammoth of information about world higher education in general and Indian higher education in particular.

General Guidelines for Publication


University News follows a fixed format for each column/item. Column/Item-wise format is as follows:
  • Articles : Please see the ‘Guidelines for Contribution of Articles and Editorial Policies’.
  • Student Column: Articles or write-ups from students in MS word format. For articles, students may follow ‘Guidelines for Contribution of Articles and Editorial Policies’.
  • Campus News : It covers the happenings in various Indian universities and institutions/agencies/apex bodies and ministries in the field of Higher Education, Youth Affairs, Sports and Culture. Item should be of approximately 1000 words.
  • Reports : Reports of seminars/symposia/conferences held at various university campuses of approximately 1000 -2000 words.
  • Convocation Address: Convocation Addresses delivered in various universities in MS Word.
  • Book Review: 2 copies of the Book be sent to the Editor University News either by the publisher or the author. The Editor will get the Book reviewed by the subject expert. Books for review need not be essentially on Higher Education.
  • Spreadsheet : Any data relating to Higher Education and allied areas which can be fit into tabular form.
  • View Point: Viewpoint on any issue of concern or debate in 1000-2000 words.
  • Citation of Doctoral Theses: Copy of notification of Doctoral Theses accepted by Indian Universities. Universities or individual candidates may submit the notification.
  • Admission Notifications: Universities/ Higher Education Institutions may submit the notifications. For this see advertisement Tariff.
  • Advertisements: Advertisements for openings in Universities, Institutions, Colleges and Research Institutions; Academic and other positions available in universities and institutions of higher learning in India. For this please see advertisement Tariff.

All the Items for publication in the University News be addressed to the Editor, University News. In case of Advertisements and Admission Notifications, a copy be send to Publication and Sales Division as well.

Guidelines for Contributions and Editorial Policies


To submit the manuscripts for publication of articles, the contributor need to follow the guidelines given below:
  1. Articles submitted for the Journal should be original contributions and should not be under consideration for any other publication at the same time. A declaration is to be made by the author in the covering letter that the paper is original and has not been published or submitted for publication elsewhere.
  2. Manuscripts including tables, figures and references should be around 3000-4000 words for articles, 2000 – 5000 words for Convocation Addresses, 1000 words for Book Reviews and 600 words for Communications.
  3. All the manuscripts should typed in double-space with 12 point font and ample margin on all sides on A 4 size paper.
  4. The cover page should contain the title of the paper, name, designation, official address, address for correspondence, contact phone/mobile numbers and e-mail address of all the authors.
  5. One author should be designated as the corresponding author.
  6. Notes, if any, should be given as Endnotes not as Footnotes.
  7. Figures include relevant captions, tables include titles, description, source etc.
  8. Figures and table citations in the text match the files provided
  9. Manuscript has been 'spell checked' and 'grammar checked'
  10. References should be given at the end of the manuscript and should contain only those cited in the text of the manuscript. The full reference should be listed at the end in alphabetical order running the following style:

Editorial Policies

  1. No fees is payable to publish Articles, Write-ups, Communication, Reports, Campus News, Book Review or such other items which academic and literary in nature.
  2. Advertisements and Admission Notification are published on payment basis as per the tariff. For Tariff and payment modes see ‘University News Journal Advertisement Tariff’.
  3. The final decision on the acceptance or otherwise of the article rests with the Editorial Committee and it depends entirely on its quality, standard and relevance. The title and content of the article accepted may be modified to meet the journal’s standards of contents, presentation, style and other specific requirement. Authors may also be requested to revise their manuscripts before they can be accepted for publication. Correspondence in this regard will be done with the first named author unless otherwise indicated.
  4. Authors are responsible for any copyright clearance, factual inaccuracies and opinions expressed in their paper.
  5. Maximum time taken for processing the article is six months. Contributors are free to send the material to any other publication after a period of six months from the date of their submitting the article to the University News, if they do not receive any intimation from AIU. Author will receive two complementary copies of the Journal immediately after its publication.
  6. AIU may re-use the articles published in the University News for its various publications.
  7. If the articles in University News are re-published by any other journals, books, websites etc permission be sought from Editor, University News.
